Financial Literacy
Financial literacy is one of the most overlooked subjects in education. Despite being more practical than much of what is taught in school, most students are never formally taught about finances, investment and how to make the most of living in a capitalist economy. Our course covers different banking accounts, credit cards, explains credit scores and how to maintain them; introduces the concepts of stock investments and the difference between some of the more popular markets; covers home ownership vs renting, how “flipping” homes works, how to build a portfolio to become a full time landlord and how to make your money work for you.

Public Speaking, Rhetoric and Persuasion

Rhetoric is the science of persuasion and our classes aim to teach how to use it to develop a strong argument, regardless of how ridiculous your premise may be. We delve into the persuasive techniques we are bombarded with on a daily basis; we explore propagandist techniques that are often used in politics and advertising; we identify the difference between logical and sound arguments, and we teach how to create both.

Media Literacy

Living in the 21st century means we are consistently connected through technology. This course takes a look at the impact the technological age has had on human psychology, culture, society and everyday life. We analyze the impact social media has had, the proliferation of the cell phone, the battle between television and internet for people's time and attention, and take a look at the effects media and advertising have had on our culture over the last century.

Nutrition Literacy

In a world where obesity affects 1 in 3 adults, we seek to teach people how science defines healthy eating; how to use nutritional information to make smart choice; how to analyze current diet trends, and we explore current concepts of diet in relation to exercise, how to maintain a positive mindset and what it means to live holistically.
